Fact File

In March 1996 myself David Patton and long time friend Robert Dickson both having followed Road Racing for many years decided we would like to put something back into the sport we love, so we decided to hold a chat show in La Mon Hotel. We had on the panel that night, Adrian Archibald, James Courtney, Geoff Mcmullan, Mark Coates and the late Owen McNally with compere for the evening Big D. On the night we raised over £600 which we handed over to the M.C.U.I. medical fund. This was the start of Ballygowan Road Racing Club as it was called then.

In 1999 along with four friends we attended a fund raising event for the family of the late Owen McNally in the Enkalon Club in Antrim and bought an entry for the Cookstown 100 for the 2000 racing season. We all decided that we would approach Darren Burns to give him the entry. Darren was delighted to take the entry under our club name and we continued to back him for the rest of the 2000. season.

In 2001 we merged with local fans to form the Ballygowan & District Road Racing Supporters Club and provided backing for Darren Burns on a  125cc. We continued to back Darren on a 250cc in 2001, 2002, 2003, and 2004 winning 3 Irish championships and Junior M.G.P. on the 250.
