Mrs Elizabeth Hamilton, known as Betty to everyone who knows her has been awarded an MBE by the Queen. Betty received the award for her outstanding volunteer work she does in Ballygowan Community particularly with the senior citizens.
Betty was congratulated by friends and family at a night in the Village Hall, Ballygowan on 17th of June 2009. A speech was given by Betty where she thanked everyone who supported her, also a speech was given by Alderman Robert Gibson, Community Association Vice-chairman Peter Wilson and by Betty's brother Tom. All said how Betty thoroughly deserved this award and Peter outlined that Betty had been instrumental in having Ballygowan Village Hall built and starting Ballygowan Playgroup and the Senior Citizens Friday Club.
Betty will meet the queen in four months time to receive her award. I am sure you will agree she is a great asset to Ballygowan and join us in congratulating her if you see her about the village.
