Where I Live
Comber, Co Down

Family
Married to David Girvan; one daughter, Chloe Campbell who is married to Julian Buchanan from Philadelphia, USA; a grandson, Ozkar Buchanan born 20 May 2008.

Sport has been a big part of my life. I played hockey for North Down Hockey Club for 20 years and was a member of Comber Tennis Club for 30 years. In my 20s and 30s I played squash at First Division level for various clubs including Kiltonga, NI Civil Service and CIYMS.

I am a member of Mahee Island Golf Club and have continued my interest in integrated education by joining the Board of Governors at Millennium Integrated Primary School, Carryduff.

Other interests include cooking, current affairs and walking.
I cut my political teeth while working as the Communications Manager for the Northern Ireland Council for Integrated Education (NICIE) and the Integrated Education Fund (IEF) between September 2000 and August 2008.
In June 2005, I decided to join the Alliance Party because it was the only political party in Northern Ireland which shared my views and values: cross-community, a balance of Protestants and Catholics and gender in its membership, inclusiveness, anti-sectarian, anti-racism, working towards a shared future and forward thinking.

In May 2011 I was elected as Councillor for Ards West.

Dear Ards West Constituents

I am delighted to have been asked to contribute to the Ballygowan Community Website to keep local people informed about what I have been doing as your local Alliance councillor for Ards West.

Firstly, I would like to congratulate the Ballygowan Community Association on their wonderful website which will keep local residents informed about what is happening in their local community and also enable local people to communicate with one another.

Secondly, I would also like to take this opportunity to invite anyone who lives in the Ards West area: - Ballygowan, Lisbane, Killinchy and Comber areas - to contact me if they have any issues or problems or better still, ideas on how the Council can improve local amenities and facilities.  You can contact me on 07870 173 805 or e-mail me on This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
