BDCA celebrate Christmas in Ballygowan
Ballygowan and District Community Association held their annual Christmas Concert on Wednesday 7th December in the Village Hall. Mrs. Betty Hamilton welcomed everyone and introduced Fresh & Fly a young dance group who got proceedings off to a lively start.
Special guests for the evening were the Mayor Mervyn Oswald and Lady Mayoress Aileen Oswald.
The Mayor switched on the lights on the Christmas Tree, which is situated in the grounds of the village hall.
After the switch on, we all returned to the hall, to be entertained by 20 members of Ravara Productions. Their director 17 year old Jamie McClelland is a member of the Community Association. Jamie and his group sang Christmas carols and Christmas songs, giving a very professional performance.
To round off the evening we were pleased to welcome the Ballygowan Concert Flute Band onto the stage fresh from their recent championship win and under their Conductor Mr. Mark Douglas we had the opportunity to join in carol singing and to listen to the band as they played musical treats such as ‘ I will Follow Him’ from Sister Act and to close the evening the rousing ‘Radetsky March’ by Strauss.
In giving his vote of thanks to the band the Mayor said it had been a wish of his to try his hand at conducting. Mark very graciously handed him the baton. Mark also made the evening for one little boy by giving him the baton.
We were pleased to be joined on the evening by Deborah Girvan and Robert and Mary Gibson with their little grand-daughter. Owing to other commitments Mr and Mrs D McNarry were unable to be with us on the evening.
Thanks are due to all who supported the evening; to Santa for distributing sweets to the children; to ABC for supplying the tree, erecting and putting the lights on it; to Mr. Peter Wilson M.B.E for all his help and assistance, and for giving so freely his time and expertise.
Many thanks to the Community Association who planned and organised the event. It was a joyous occasion much enjoyed by everyone.
Refreshments were enjoyed by all at the close of the Event.
