Carrickmannon Primary School is a controlled primary school, situated 1.5 miles outside the village of Ballygowan. The present enrolment of compulsory school aged children is 100 with 3 full-time permanent members of staff and a permanent part-time teacher. The school is a listed building of historical interest which was refurbished in 1992. Two mobile classrooms in the picturesque grounds provide extra accommodation.

The Board of Governors, Principal and Staff of this school have established a clear vision of what the school wants to achieve in terms of the general development of pupils and about particular aspects of the curriculum. Our aim is to develop the potential of each child in the following areas: intellectual, social and cultural, spiritual and moral, emotional, and physical.

We seek to nurture the development of these aims by providing each child with an environment in which they feel valued and secure. We feel that these aims will best be achieved within a well ordered, disciplined environment where children grow in self-esteem and in respect for peers and adults. We believe in the fostering of close relationships between home and school and feel this is an essential element in preparing children for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of adult life. At Carrickmannon, a high standard of work, personal achievement and conduct is maintained by pupils and staff working happily together
